Forged denarius of Septimius Severus
Description
English: A copper-alloy and silver coin of Roman date. Contemporary forgery of a denarius of Septimius Severus (AD 193-211), PROVID AVGG. Based on a prototype from Rome, AD 202-10.

RIC IV, c.f. no. 284

The coin consists of a copper-alloy core with a silver wash on top (now largely disintegrated). It has been well-executed on the reverse and bears a strong resemblance to the genuine coin. The obverse is heavily worn and corroded. It measures 17.7mm diameter by 1.8mm thick and weighs 2.53g.
