Folly in the grounds of Elvaston Castle

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Folly in the grounds of Elvaston Castle. Folly is probably not the right word as one can imagine that this building was in fact used. It is approached from the house via a path which runs along the western edge of the formal garden. This path opens-out into a lawn and this building sits at the southern end of that lawn. A set of broad steps out of shot to the right lead onto a raised platform and the building is accessed by a door way at the back. One can imagine an after dinner stroll being taken along that route then drinks being taken in here with the large round window framing the view back to the house and church. The strange shape of the building with the inward curve of the side walls and curved pagoda-like roof is seen in other out-buildings on the estate, for example: 1023457.
