Description

Florida Panther NWR conducted a 704 acre prescribed fire on April 4th 2014 in the southeast corner of the refuge near I-75 and SR 29. Firefighters from Florida Panther NWR, Merritt Island NWR, J.N. Ding Darling NWR, ARM Loxahatchee NWR and Big Cypress NP all took part in this burn. This is an important area of the refuge to treat with fire because of its proximity to the major roads in the area and the large prairie that needs more frequent fire. The prescribed fire treated areas around the public hiking trail at Florida Panther NWR.
