English: Through the help of an Afghan interpreter for the Farah Provincial Reconstruction Team, Trevor Hublin, a member of the United States Agency for International Development (pictured in the center) sits next to Abdul Satar Khan, the newly elected deputy of the Farah Provincial Council, during a Provincial Disaster Management Committee meeting, Feb. 7. The committee convened as a response to a flood in Por Chaman District that has killed six women and six children, 60 horses, and 2,000 sheep. After three days of heavy snowfall followed by rain, an estimated 200 jeribs (approximately 100 acres) of land is under water and the disaster has spread through the villages of Qarya-i-Nizgan, Kamaraq, and Khaief. |
