Nelumbo Pond Lotus Pond Nelumbo nucifera Sacred Lotus Native from Southern Asia to Northern Australia. It was sacred in Egypt though reputed to have been introduced there ca. 500 BC Venerated in India, Burma, Sri Lanka, China and Tibet. It is said to be the Flower in which Buddha sits thus. It is symbolic of perpetual life. Rhizomes and seeds are eaten in part of Asia. THe stamens used medicinally. In India, the milky juice from leaf and Flower stalks has been used for diarrhea. The lovely flowers' subtle hue - A please to behold. These blooms not only can, but do Keep insects from the cold. Inside the little beetles dance A night club pace frenetic. What brings about this circumstance? The plants thermogenetic! It's found in many warmer climes From Darwin to Colombo.
