Summary
[edit]DescriptionFlickr - archer10 (Dennis) - Bolivia-34.jpg |
English: Semi-subterranean Temple is constructed resembling a square with the floor about 2 meters below the soil level. Like the Kalasasaya mound, the sunken courtyard is walled by standing stones and masonry infill. The walls contain many carved limestone faces. Some people believe that the faces show different ethnic groups such as African and Japanese who may have come lived in the area before the Spaniards conquered South America. In the middle of the temple is a monolith called Kon Tiki or Monolito Barado (Bearded Monolith) due to the appearance of a beard on its face. The position of the arms are in a praying position, different to the others in Tiwanaku, showing the power of the priests. Tiwanaku, Bolivia |
