U.S. FIFTH FLEET AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (Oct. 23, 2012) Navy Diver 2nd Class Matthew Cortez, assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1, Company 1-5, places the assessment and identification of a mine susceptibility system during dive operations. MDSU 1 is assigned to Commander, Task Group (CTG) 56.1 and provides mine countermeasure, explosive ordnance disposal, salvage diving, counter terrorism, and force protection for the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
