Summary

[edit]
Description

Lost Lakes Preserve, Monroe County.

Natural lakes, ponds, and wetlands are abundant in the Poconos because of the region's glaciated past. This and several other small lakes in the preserve were formed at the end of the last ice age; chunks of ice broke free from the retreating glacier, lodging themselves into the earth and forming kettles, or depressions, that slowly filled with meltwater.
