DescriptionFlickr - Israel Defense Forces - Chief of Staff Visits Golani Brigade, Jan 2011 (2).jpg |
January 20, 2011. The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, bids farewell to the Golani Brigade, where he served as a young soldier. "The Golani Brigade taught be how to be a warrior and a command, taught me about determination and courage," thus said Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi during his final visit to the brigade last Thursday, on his farewell rounds before preparing to leave his position. During the visit, which was held at the brigade's training base, key figures from Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi's days as a soldier took the stage, among them: the Brigade Commander in the time when the Chief of Staff was the brigade's Operations Officer, and his personal secretary when he had been Brigade Commander. The Chief of Staff added: "The Golani Brigade is a brigade which just doesn't know how to stop, and is tasked with the most difficult missions. Golani is not just a legacy, but mostly a story of people who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country, some of them who are no longer with us today." Pictured: Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi shaking the hand of Uri Sagi
