Description
English: The sculpture was created by local Asheville sculptor Reed Todd, and is based on old clothing irons used in the Asheville Laundry a hundred years ago. The giant, black antique housewares item was installed in 1997, a reminder of the early 1900s when flatiron buildings were a popular architectural style. The Flat Iron Building (1926) was built reminiscent of the ground-breaking 1902 skyscraper that graces Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.
