Fisher-Nash-Griggs House in Ottawa (c. 1855). It is named after three families that were all lawyers and bankers. George Smith Fisher & Marsha Fisher built the northern (front) portion of the house in the 1850s. Shortly thereafter, the added a dining room to the south. George Fisher came to Ottawa in 1840 at the age of 17 and became an attorney by 1850. He also dealt in real estate and insurance, and co-founded the city's first bank. He served with the Republican party as a consul to Japan in the 1860s and to Lebanon in the 1870s. Lura Fisher & John Fiske Nash added the west wing in the early 1860s. They added the east wing in 1910. Nash was also a lawyer and a banker. He came to Ottawa in 1847, was admitted to the bar in 1849, and served as clerk of the circuit court from 1857 to 1860. He was secretary of the Illinois General Assembly in 1865-66. Like Fisher, Nash also worked in a bank, serving as cashier of the First National Bank of Ottawa from 1865 to 1901. Their daughter married Clarence Griggs in 1883, who became owners in 1912. The Griggses added the ionic columns that year. Griggs began a law practice in 1880 and served as LaSalle County state's attorney for 11 years. He was also the attorney for the State Board of Canal Commissioners and director of the First National Bank in Ottawa.
