Title |
Finger Ring |
||
Description |
English: The oval bezel of a Roman copper alloy finger ring with remains of a blue glass setting (intaglio), 13 by 9 mm. No meaningful trace of a design can be seen and the ring may well have been burnt at some point. Glass settings with an impressed design were a cheaper alternative to the individually carved stone intaglios. Rings of this type are difficult to date but they appear to have been most common in the third century, with little, or no, evidence for their use before the latter part of the second century (Henig 1974, 35). |
