Fine George's Bridge at Weston-on-Trent, Derbyshire

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Fine George's Bridge at Weston-on-Trent, Derbyshire. Bridge No 9 on the Trent and Mersey Canal Who was Fine George? Does it refer to the king, or a highly respected local citizen? Or maybe the local squire and landowner in the 1770s was a particularly well dressed individual. Some maps have this bridge named as Scotch Bridge. The bridge allows a farm track across to fields by the River Trent, and careful examination of the current satellite image on Google Maps shows that there might be a fording point at the end of the track.
