Description

I thought someone was joking when they said that these birds are found within the city during this month. A migrant to South Indian Forests from Himalayan Foothills, these very beautiful birds are prized among photographers for their beauty. They are called "Navrang" or 9 colored bird and fully mature adults display those colors very beautifully. This one has a color or two missing and is likely a subadult due to the lack of a blue shade on the shoulders / wings.

What is more surprising is that there seems to be a whole family left behind this season and I am not sure if they can make the journey back. It happens at times that we see such birds - though most of them don't live till the end of the season either due to the heat or due to the predators.
