This image is excerpted from a U.S. GAO report:<a href="http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-14-285T" rel="nofollow">www.gao.gov/products/GAO-14-285T</a> FAA REAUTHORIZATION ACT: Progress and Challenges Implementing Various Provisions of the 2012 Act Notes: The baseline reflects an aircraft’s flight path in the current air-traffic control system. “Four-dimensional (4-D) trajectory” operations is an air traffic management concept in which every aircraft that is operating in or managed by the air traffic control system is represented in four dimensions—latitude, longitude, altitude, and with time. a) Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a technology that will enable aircraft to continually broadcast flight data—such as position, air speed, and altitude—among other types of information, to air traffic controllers and other aircraft. |
