| Description |
English: Ferries on the Southampton Water Viewed from Hythe Pier, with Southampton in the background. The smaller ferry (on the left) is called Great Expectations, and serves as the Hythe Ferry. Here it is heading for the Hythe terminal at the end of Hythe Pier. The larger ferry on the right is called Red Osprey, and is one of the Red Funnel vehicle ferries that operate between Southampton and East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The two larger buildings in the background on the left are the Holiday Inn (near West Quay and the docks) and the HSBC building (near the Southampton Central train station). In the foreground terns are hunting for fish in the water. |
