Fern architecture
Description
English: Fern (Dryopteris affinis) architecture, near to Fishguard/Abergwaun, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Wales. The fronds fan out from the cluster of rhizomes at the base, maximising their exposure to sunlight. A familiar sight in spring woodland and one that has been around a long time. Ferns have been in existence since the Early Carboniferous period about 300 million years
