Description
English: English translation; THE ELECTIONS The electoral period is over. We did not want to let this memorable time go by without mentioning it, and we asked two of our staff to travel around the city last Sunday to retrace the most interesting scenes.Mr. Godefroy Durand was in charge of the prenorte collaboratemiere page. He attended, in rue des Fosses-St-Jacques, the sealing of the electoral ballot box, on the Sunday, at six o'clock in the evening. We know that all citizens present can claim to affix their seal, next to that of the scrutineers, on the ballot box which receives the ballots, on the first day of voting. This did not take place at the electoral office we just named. Once completed, the ballot box was taken to a room at the nearby municipal school, where it was placed under the supervision of the National Guard until the next day.Mr.Ferat traveled through Paris, collecting from this, sketches of picturesque and comical scenes.First it shows us the last hour of the posting. It seems that gentlemen in some neighborhoods were driving the streets in cars, stopping to stick up posters themselves where they were missing. At the Fontainebleau barrier, our collaborator saw election brokers pay recalcitrant voters, and finally decide in favor of their man. Rabbit's influence jumps on current politics. Here are the newsletter distributors; everyone has seen them. Here it is two drums of the National Guard who transport the ballot box from the election office to the place where it is to spend the night; there it is the runners who attend the counting of the votes, and who, from quarter of an hour to quarter of an hour, take turns to bring news to the newspapers and impatient candidates; finally, the counting ends, we attend the auto-da-fe of the ballots listed. The elections, taken from this picturesque side, are not lacking, as we can see, of a certain pace. text by Alphonse Hermant (b.1827-d.1870)
