DAN EMMETT, IN OLD AGE MXit Mrs. Emmett had suggested plainDixie as a title for the song, and herhusband had adopted it. But whenthe song was published in i860, itwas called, I wish I was in DixiesLand,—a line which does not occurin it. Afterwards it was published asDixies Land—but to the public itsimply is Dixie, which shows thatwhen Mrs. Emmett suggested thatone word for a title, she knew whatshe was about.
