[edit]DescriptionFalling apart - geograph.org.uk - 1115519.jpg |
English: Falling apart One of the many WW2 buildings on the domestic site of RNAS Crail (HMS Jackdaw) which are now in a dangerously dilapidated state. Originally used by the Fleet Air Arm, many of these buildings were used after WW2 ended as accommodation for a boy cadet training school (HMS Bruce), then for several Army units including soldiers of the Black Watch prior to service in Korea and British Guiana, then from 1956 to 1960 as classrooms and accommodation for students of the Joint Service School of Linguists who were secretly being taught Russian, Polish, Czech etc. as part of the Cold War. These students included several names later to become famous, including Oxford Russian history professor Harold Shurman and writers Michael Frayn and Alan Bennett. |
