Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pictured is a soldier inside his FUCHS vehicle, retrieving a sample from outside the vehicle using tongs and a built-in protective rubber glove. The sample is then stored in the sample tube for remote analysing from inside the vehicle.

FALCON Squadron were part of Vanguard Enabling Group deployed on Exercise Shamal Storm, Jordan in 2016.

FALCON Squadron, The Royal Tank Regiment, 22 Engineer Regiment operate several FUCHs Area Reconnaissance and Survey Vehicles used for area surveillance and Reconnaissance - Chemical, Biological, Radioactive and Nuclear.

The Fuchs (6 × 6) CBRN vehicle incorporates a comprehensive, fully-integrated suite of devices and automatic detection systems for identifying NBC warfare agents and other hazardous and toxic materials.

The double-wheel sampling system includes two silicone-coated wheels for the automatic detection of NBC warfare agents and harmful materials on the ground.

A stand-off infrared detector aboard the vehicle can detect volatile chemical substances in the air from a long distance.

The NBC tail at the rear of the hull houses a tube magazine for carrying samples, the marker trap, glove opening and forceps for manual sampling.

The operator’s position is provided with a system with NBC Inspector software and the mass spectrometer placed behind the operator’s position is used for performing chemical analysis of samples collected from soil, water and vegetation.

Also fitted to the vehicle is a central computer system. It also transmits all relevant CBRN data to the other vehicles and headquarters and can mark the contaminated areas and warn the friendly units and civilians to avoid the risk of contamination.
