DescriptionFakial QE2 135.jpg | A FAKIAL HOME. It is believed that the members of the very small tribe of which some of the representatives are portrayed in this picture are strangers in the north-eastern corner of India in which they are at present to be found They are said to be the descendants of the aboriginal population of Burma who hase wandered to the north-west and have made their home among strangers, still keeping their own individuality and peculiar independent methods of life The total number of the tribe in India does not exceed 30,000 persons Their primitive dwellings indicate a low stage of civilisation, though in appearance the men and women represented in the picture are by no means so degraded and unattractive as are some or the wild wandering tribes of the peninsula. | |||
