English: Principle of operation of a FMCW Doppler radar employing a triangle waveform for frequency modulation. The diagram shows frequency versus time. The zero point of the frequency axis is far below (the modulation depth typically is of the order of a few percent). Time delay and Doppler shift are exaggerated. The blue trace is the frequency of the transmitted wave. Gray is an echo of an object at constant distance. The delay is twice the distance divided by the speed of light. The red trace is an echo of an object at the same but diminishing distance. It is shifted to higher frequencies due to the Doppler effect. For the evaluation, the two indicated frequency differences are obtained and either averaged (for the Doppler shift) or subtracted from each other and divided by the magnitude of the modulation slope to yield twice the time delay.
Deutsch: Funktionsprinzip eines FMCW-Doppler-Radars mit dreieckförmiger Frequenzmodulation. Im Diagramm sind Frequenzen gegen die Zeit aufgetragen. Der Frequenznullpunkt liegt weit unterhalb (typische Modulationstiefen liegen in der Größenordnung von wenigen Prozent). Der zeitliche Versatz und die Doppler-Verschiebung sind übertrieben dargestellt. Die blaue Linie ist die Frequenz der ausgesendeten Welle. Grau ist das Echo von einem Objekt in konstanter Entfernung. Die Verzögerung beträgt das Doppelte der Entfernung geteilt durch die Lichtgeschwindigkeit. Die rote Linie zeigt das Echo eines herannahenden Objekts in der gleichen Entfernung. Sie ist aufgrund des Doppler-Effekts zu höheren Frequenzen verschoben. Zur Auswertung werden die beiden markierten Differenzfrequenzen ermittelt und einerseits gemittelt, um die Doppler-Verschiebung zu erhalten, andererseits voneinander abgezogen und durch die Änderungsrate der Frequenz geteilt, was das Doppelte der zeitlichen Verzögerung ergibt. |
