Summary
[edit]DescriptionFED 1a (1934) -757 20-8165.jpg |
English: FED 1 Type A (aka Fedka), historically the most significant Soviet camera based on the German-made Leica II. Dr William Buckley Peck, a widely known prominent Freeport Illinois (USA) physician and surgeon, purchased this FED 1a camera with a very low early 3 digit serial number of 757 produced April 1934 in the first year of production by the F.E.Dzerzhinsky (FED) Labor Commune in Kharkov Ukraine, while on a trip to Russia in 1934.
The metal finish on this camera is the burnished, a galvanized like, finish used before the hard to come by, and expensive chromium, used later was available. The body has a smooth black plastic (celluloid) cover instead of the simulated leather vulcanite (a hard, readily cut and polished rubber, obtained by vulcanizing rubber with a large amount of sulfur) cover used later. |
