Route: 50 Destination: Russ Hill Hotel, Charlwood Location: Balcombe Road, Pound Hill Date: 6th September 2014

This was the first day of this new service. Southdown PSV of Copthorne used to run a shuttle bus between the Europa Gatwick Hotel on the southeast edge of Crawley, in Maidenbower – where the Balcombe Road crosses the M23 just beyond Junction 10A, and the Russ Hill Hotel in the countryside northwest of the airport on the Charlwood – Rusper road. With effect from 6 September 2014 – i.e. today - route G4 was replaced with routes 40/50, run on a commercial basis and serving a wide range of stops en route. Given that the new Forge Wood neighbourhood is now under development, I wonder if Southdown PSV have an eye on potential traffic it may generate. Only a small diversion from the current route (www.earthfish.co.uk/Angorfa/sdpsv/A4 40_50.pdf) would be required to serve it. It's the area south of Tinsley Green and north of Crawley Avenue. Quite apart from this, the routes have created some useful new connections between places which were previously difficult to travel between by bus.

Incidentally, route 40 is the southbound service (Russ Hill – Europa Gatwick); route 50 is used for the northbound service.
