Description
English: Trinity Parish Church, Seattle's first Episcopal church, was established on August 13, 1865. The congregation's first church building and the rectory next door were located at Third Avenue and Jefferson Street, and were dedicated on June 11, 1871. Both buildings were destroyed in the 1889 Great Fire, and the church moved to its present site, on First Hill at 609 Eighth Avenue, opening in 1892. The current church building, built after a 1902 fire, was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

This image of the church was taken in its original location, prior to the fire, and before additions to the front of the building added a tower and rotated the entrance from Jefferson to Third. The man standing on the front porch is unidentified, but he may be Reverend George Herbert Watson (1846-1896), Trinity's first permanent rector, who served from 1878-1896. The image appears to have been taken facing northwest toward the intersection of Third and Jefferson (Third runs north-south between the church and the rectory, while Jefferson runs east-west towards Elliott Bay). Tall-masted ships in Elliott Bay are just visible at the left edge of the frame. [1]
