English: 170113-N-OR477-394
NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain (Jan. 13, 2017) Equipment Operator Constructionman Travis Fryar, left center, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 11, signals the crane to lower an MK 48 inert training torpedo while Sailors aboard the Virginia-class attack submarine USS California (SSN 781) prepare the weapons loading skid during an expeditionary ordnance loading exercise aboard Naval Station Rota, Spain on Jan. 13, 2017. The exercise was designed to demonstrate the U.S. Navy’s capability to load ordnance onto naval vessels in non-traditional locations, and is the first in a series of expeditionary weapons loading events planned for the next year in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint, and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
