Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pictured is a 45 Commando Viking Armoured Personnel Vehicle carrying out Advance to Contact training serial which involved a force on force battle between the Royal Marines and the Latvian Army, Exercise Sabre Strike.

The exercise involves elements from the United Kingdom, United States, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Canada, Slovakia, Slovenia, Norway and Italy. The exercise saw each nation working together over three different countries; Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

Viking Armoured Vehicles provide protected battlefield mobility for the Royal Marines of 3 Commando Brigade. Designed for amphibious operations they have the ability to 'swim' when required, either to land troops ashore, or to cross obstacles like rivers and lakes

The amphibious Vikings are armoured, all-terrain vehicles capable of operating anywhere in the world in temperatures from -46C to +49C, and were selected for their ability to be deployed rapidly in jungle, desert or arctic conditions quickly. The Viking consists of two tracked vehicle units linked by a steering mechanism. They can be lifted by Chinook helicopters, driven into a C130 Hercules aircraft or carried on a landing craft. They can be split into 2 sections in just 20 minutes to be carried by the merlin helicopter.
