Dans le Keewatin se trouvent certainssédiments tels que la formation ferrifèreou jaspilite, des ardoises noires et desgreywackés, qui représentent probablementla série Grenville du S.-E. de lOntario. Certains dykes quon décrit avec leKeewatin sont postérieurs au Timiskaming,mais comme on ne les a jamais trouvés encontact avec la série Timiskaming, leur âgereste incertain. 6; NOTES SUR LES ROCHES KEEWATIN. Les roches Keewatin de la région de Cobalt proprementdite se divisent en quatre classes. (1) Basaltes, (2) Dia-bases et autres roches basiques, (3) Roches intrusives aci-des, (4) Sédiments. Les roches intrusives acides sontassez peu fréquentes dans le district de Cobalt: elles com-prennent des felsites, des porphyres quartzifères et desporphyres felds pathiques. Les sédiments attachés auKeewatin comprennent une formation ferrifère (jaspilite,cherts et grauwackes), des schistes graphitiques et desardoises. 5.—Bk 7. 66 La plupart des roches basiques ignées du Keewatin sontdevenues schisteuses et leur caractère primitif est actuelle-ment difficile à déterminer. Les roches acides intrusives du Keewatin sont dans len-semble beaucoup plus jeunes que les roches basiques. Cer-taines diabases recoupent les basaltes et la formation ferri-fère. On ne connaît aucun granité ou gneiss granitoïde plusancien que le granité de Lorrain dans les environs immédiatsde Cobalt, mais certains cailloux et blocaux des conglomératsde la région argentifère de Cobalt proviennent du Lauren-tien.
