ArtsEmerson in Boston present the public dialogue Some Other Race: Exploring the Diversity within the Latino Story livestreaming on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Tuesday, May 10 at 7pm EDT (New York) / 6pm CDT (Chicago) / 4pm PDT (Los Angeles). Share your thoughts on Twitter with hashtag #cafeonda. Latinos are becoming a majority demographic in the US but yet still find themselves boxed into “some other race” on the US Census. How are Latinos updating our national narrative to be truly reflective of a changing America? How does the diversity inside of the Latino experience, whether Cuban, or Chicano, or South American, challenge and reflect the American cultural narrative? How do artists and communities create stories inside the breadth that is the Latino identity? Members of the panel are associated with the Latina/o Theatre Commons: Abigail Vega, Latina/o Theatre Commons Producer Evelina Fernández, Playwright and company member of the Latino Theater Company, Los Angeles Lisa Portes, Head of MFA Directing at The Theatre School at DePaul University, Chicago Moderated by Noe Montez, Assistant Professor of Drama, Tufts University, Boston About ArtsEmerson's public dialogue series: Naming Ourselves: Provocative Conversations On Identity And Representation Naming Ourselves is aimed at connecting the work on our stages, our artists, our community partners, and our audiences through conversations that address the concerns and challenges of our contemporary moment.
