L’étrille se rencontre en Mer du Nord, Manche, Atlantique Nord-Est et Méditerranée.

Sa carapace mesure de 5 à 6 cm de longueur et 8 cm de largeur. Elle est de couleur brunâtre, avec des appendices aux lignes bleues et des yeux rouge vif. On note la présence de 4 à 5 dents sur la carapace de part et d’autre des yeux. Ses pattes postérieures, dites "natatoires", ont une forme aplatie caractéristique.

The crab is found in the North Sea, the English Channel, the North-East Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

Its shell measures 5 to 6 cm in length and 8 cm in width. It is brownish in color, with appendages with blue lines and bright red eyes. There are 4 to 5 teeth on the shell on either side of the eyes. Its hind legs, called "swimming legs", have a characteristic flattened shape.
