Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Doctor Carlos Messina Staircase, Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, 1926. Location: a broad staircase that connects Francisco Araújo and General Osorio avenues. "Formerly the Ladeira do Egito, the staircase is part of an eclectic set of staircases that includes Barbara Lindenberg, São Diogo, Dionysus Rosendo, Maria Ortiz staircases. The eclectic style predominated from the late nineteenth century in Brazilian cities, and was a landmark in the transformation of the Portuguese colonial village into the new republican city. The Carlos Messina Staircase has three-lamp luminaires, a handrail with a geometric design, and a landscaped central garden, whose landscaping project will be developed by the Municipal Secretary of the Environment."--Angèle Murad.
