Description

The Epler Cafeteria operated between roughly 1909 and 1921. In 1913, African-American newspaper editor Horace Cayton unsuccessfully brought a suit of race discrimination against the cafeteria when they refused to take his payment for a meal and told him he "was not wanted as a customer" according to a January 23, 1913 Seattle Times article.
