Summary
[edit]DescriptionEpinotia immundana (17385298348).jpg |
Identified as the delightfully named Common Birch Bell (Epinotia immundana) by Adam Cheeseman in the Facebook Insects of Britain and Northern Europe. Alternative suggestions were Notocelia tetragonana or Epiblema cirsiana. After some discussion, Knapweed Bell (Epiblema cirsiana) seems to be the best ID, based on the raised tuft behind the head. After consultation with Tony Pritchard, the Suffolk Moth Recorder, the most likely ID is Epiblema cf. cirsiana. Photographed on 11 May 2015 in my garden (Ipswich, VC25 East Suffolk, TM166450). |
