Summary

[edit]
Description Built in the 200s BC in the Hellenistic period during the reign of Lysimachos, this building was known as the Prytaneion, or city hall, serving as the seat of the Ephesian government. It remained a significant structure in Ephesus until the 300s AD, during the late Roman period, when it became dilapidated, and was eventually replaced by the Scholastica Baths, with parts of the building being incorporated into the public bath house. The remains of the building was excavated in modern times. The ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
