Description
English: Richard Trevithick plunger and pole steam engine outline. Valve a (steam inlet) is briefly opened. High pressure steam expands inside the cylinder, pushing the plunger down. Plunger c is pushed up by the water inside the cylinder, rising the pump's piston through the pole d. When the exhaust (b) is opened, plunger and pole go down again.
