  • From the collection of the New-York Historical Society
  • The Emlen House was built by George Emlen III (1718–1776), part of a prominent Quaker family in Philadelphia.[1] It was owned by his son George Emlen (circa 1741
    date QS:P,+1741-00-00T00:00:00Z/9,P1480,Q5727902
    –1812) when it served as Washington's headquarters in November and December 1777.[2]
