PUBLIC RELATIONS To-day we held a meeting of the public relationscommittee. Last October in making up the list ofnames to serve on this committee I had the importanceof the work to be done in mind. I appointed this com-mittee with the full intention that it do more than sim-ilar committees had done in the past, or that it shouldreport back to the association that public relations allover the country were in such good condition that nowork along this line was necessary. (Mr. Black thenread the names of the members of the committee onpublic relations.) Most of these men were present at to-days meetingof the committee, and a very thoughtful and thoroughdiscussion took place. The work to be done in generalwas gone over, and it was the unanimous opinion of

ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL 237 all present that the committee should get busy and that,with the co-operation of all the member companies, themanufacturers and all others interested, a most ef-fective work can be accomplished during the presentyear. To this end the following resolution was adopted: That a sub-committee of five be appointed by thechairman to draft a set of principles for the associa-tion, setting forth the associations view in generalterms on the problems confronting us, and outlining acomprehensive plan of educational publicity along thelines suggested tentatively by Chairman McCarter, andto prepare a plan for raising a publicity fund of $50,000or more, all of which is to be submitted to the fullcommittee, it is hoped, within a months time. Thechairman then appointed the following committee:James H. McGraw, chairman; Guy E. Tripp, C. LoomisAllen, Frank R. Ford and Col. T. S. Williams, withChairman McCarter a member ex officio.
