A %-in. yel-low pine tongue-and-groove floor is laidon the galvanized iron and supports acomposition floor surface about 11/16 in.thick reinforced with wire netting. Theedges of the trap doors and openingsthrough the floor are protected by angle-iron frames anda drain opening is placed in the center of the car floor.The wearing surface of the floor is marbleoid, suppliedby the St. Louis Marbleoid Manufacturing Company. Thismaterial is a composition of granite and cement, which issaid to wear well and be water and fireproof. Riveted to the bottom andinside of these side plates are two angle irons, which formthe connection for the 4-in. I-beam cross sills. One angleiron is 8 in. x 3^ in. x >S in., with its long side rivetedto the 26-in. side plate. The cross sills rest on the flangeof this L-shaped iron. Above the cross sills is the second a row of rivets and also to afford a joint which would notcatch dirt. This feature is clearly illustrated. The windows of the car body all raise to leave largeopenings for summer service.
