| Description |
English: In 1996 South Korean legislative election, two famous big shot politicians collided in Jongno District constituency; Lee Myung-bak and Roh Moo-hyun. This photo, taken at Muak-dong of Jongno District, shows election posters of Lee and Roh in 1996. Though Lee won this election, he had to step down from member of the National Assembly (South Korean legislative) elected in Jongno District, since he was under charges of violating election laws. Left vacancy was filled by Roh in coming by-election. This political event has nationwide popularity in South Korea, as both of them later became the President of South Korea respectively.
한국어: 1996년 열린 대한민국의 제15대 총선에서, 이명박과 노무현은 종로 선거구를 두고 맞붙었습니다. 종로구 무악동에서 촬영된 이 사진에는 두 사람의 당시 선거벽보가 나란히 놓여 있습니다. 선거에서 이긴 것은 이명박이었지만, 그는 얼마 지나지 않아 선거법위반 혐의로 의원직을 사퇴해야만 했습니다. 그로 인해 생긴 공석은 연이어 열린 보궐선거에서 노무현에 의해 채워졌습니다. 이 정치적 사건은 한국인들에게 중요한 인상을 남겼는데, 왜냐하면 두 사람 모두 그 후에 각각 대한민국의 대통령으로 선출되었기 때문입니다. |
