Description
El lienzo representa la elección de Wamba (¿?-688) como rey de los Visigodos. Wamba rechazó el nombramiento debido a su avanzada edad, pero fue forzado por la nobleza a aceptar el trono el día 1 de septiembre del año 672 en la localidad de Gertici o Gérticos, después llamada Wamba en su honor, y en la que había fallecido su antecesor, el rey Recesvinto. Por iniciativa propia, a fin de que su elección no fuera considerada una usurpación, Wamba exigió ser coronado rey en Toledo, donde fue ungido el día 20 de septiembre por el obispo Quirico en la iglesia pretoriense de San Pedro y San Pablo. Wamba renunció al trono en el año 680 y falleció en el año 688. Fue sucedido en el trono por el rey Ervigio.
