Title
Elder Park Migrant Hostel (SPF Hostel)
Description
The Elder park migrant hostel (formerly the Schools Patriotic Fund Hostel) was designed to accommodate migrants coming into South Australia. Its central location in Elder Park, where the Festival Centre now sits, became a hub to those needing temporary accommodation. The building contained dormitories, a lounge room and writing room, as well as communal bathrooms, a dining room and laundry. At its inception in 1947, the Hostel hosted British migrants, Maltese migrants, trades people and war orphans who had come to experience a new life in Australia.
