Description
Deutsch: Eissäger - Eisschläger Im Jahr 1882 beginnt an der Alten Donau die Natureisgewinnung. Da es noch keine Kühl- und Gefrierschränke gibt, ist Natureis lange Zeit das einzige Kühlmittel. Sobald die Alte Donau entsprechend dick zugefroren ist, sägen die Eissäger Platten aus dem Eis und flößen sie durch den Schwemmkanal zum Fischerstrand. Das Eis hält in speziellen Eiskellern und -gruben bis in die Sommermonate. Zwischen Kaiserwasser und Alter Donau erbaut die Wiener Eisfabrik fünf Eishäuser. Wirtshäuser und Fleischhauer in ganz Wien werden mit den Eisblöcken beliefert. 1917 wird die Natureisgewinnung eingestellt. (Wiener Wasserwege)
