'Next train' describers on an intermediate landing between the ticket gates and the platforms at Edgware Road subsurface London Underground station. This station was built as part of the initial 1863 route of the Metropolitan Railway. It was rebuilt (with four platforms) in the 1920s as part of a planned new deep level tube train route designed to relieve congestion at the London end of the route via Finchley Road. However the project was cancelled when new government regulations were introduced banning new instances of trains which could not be walked through from travelling in 'tube train' tunnels. The Metropolitan Railway wanted to use its existing slam door trains in the relief tunnels. Nowadays this station is served by Hammersmith & City, Circle and District line trains. NB: the Bakerloo line station is elsewhere - a short walk away across a busy road. |
