Tysonrecognized a rock as the one which hid the Polarisfrom the view of the party left on the floe. Soonafterward, at nine oclock on the evening of the 14th,a sound of human voices was heard in the distance. Aboat was instantly lowered and started for the shoreamid great excitement, which was mingled with exult-ation when Greer exclaimed:— I see their house; two tents are clearly perceptible,and moving figures can be seen on the mainland.
