Description |
Achaemenid Period (ca. 550 - 330 BCE). I love the sophisticated use of a stylized animal form in creating the handles on this vessel. Horned animals were the most common motif I saw on ancient Persian ceramics. To my untrained eye, the piece resembles an amphora because of the narrow neck and rounded bottom. In the museum at Persepolis, Iran. |
