Title
Early medieval sleeve clasp
Description
English: A copper alloy hook piece from a sleeve clasp. The piece is 33.2mm long, 15.5mm wide and 4.1mm thick. It is sub rectangular with a trilobed rear edge which is shorter than the front edge. There are two irregularly shaped holes nearer the read edge of central, and two incised lines with the area between them divided into squares near the front edge. There is a very small turned back plate acting as the hook in the centre of the front edge. The object has a dark green patina. The sleeve clasp bears similarities to number 27.6 (3) in West's (1998) Corpus of Anglo Saxon Material from Suffolk. Sleeve clasps date from the late fifth or sixth centuries.
