Title
Early medieval : Small Long Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy small long brooch of early medieval date. The head of the brooch is all that remains. The head is rectangular in shape with two winged projections to either side. From the outer edges of these projections and the top of the head three bulbous knops extend. From the fourth edge of the rectangular head the remains of the bow can be seen curving slightly outward. The reverse of the brooch is undecorated however an attachment loop projects which is now infilled with iron corrosion where the spring and pin where attached.

The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is slightly worn. The brooch fragment is 34.3mm long, 34.7mm wide, 7mm thick and weighs. 9.3g. A similar example can be seen in EAA 84, p.132, fig.16, no5.
