Early Medieval sleeve clasp fragment |
||
Description |
English: Copper alloy sleeve clasp fragment. Rectangular sheet metal plate probably cut to shape, with its inner edge bearing six triangular projections, and with two drilled holes of diameter 3.5mm for sewn attachment to a garment cuff. A pierced slot with rounded ends of length 13mm is set at the midpoint of the outer side, to serve as the eye or female component of a hook and eye fastening. A vertical grey strip between the attachment and fastening holes indicates the loss of an applied decorative bar; this material extends towards the outer edge on one side of the slot. Hines Form B13a. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 500-575
Length: 40.9mm, Width: 18.1mm, Thickness: 0.5mm, Weight: 2.64gms |
