Description
English: 1. NLM09588: Styca of Aethelred II (840-8), undefined reign.

Obverse: central cross with pellets in alternate angles, inscription from 7 o'clock: EDIL[], Reverse: illegible, around a central cross Diameter: 12.0mm, weight 0.85g.

2. NLM09587: Undefined Styca. Obverse: central cross, around which I can make out DV or DA at 7 o'clock which I'm assuming is representative of a moneyer's name. Reverse: illegible Diameter is 11.8mm, 0.81g.

3. NLM09592: Undefined Styca Diameter 11.1mm, weight 0.55g.

4. NLM09591: Obverse: central cross, and I think I can just about make out an E (6 o'clock) and an L (9 o'clock), so it probably reads E[DI]L[] for Aethelred II, again either reign. Reverse: central cross, and various lines in the inscription. at 6 o'clock I might be able to see an M, possibly, at 9 o'clock the lower half of an O and at 3 o'clock the top half of an E, so it might read MO[NN]E for the moneyer, which would fit quite happily. Monne was a major moneyer for man of the Northumbrian rulers of the 9th century. Diameter 12.4mm, weight 1.02g.
